2018 MOQBA Values Awards

Presented March 3, 2018

The mission of the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance is to provide opportunities for high-quality academic competition throughout the state of Missouri. As part of that mission, the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance seeks to recognize those students who not only exemplify the core values of sportsmanship, fairness, and integrity, but are above and beyond shining examples to their peers.

Emily Boyle of Hallsville High School has embodied these values throughout her high school career, and most notably during the 2017 MACA JV State tournament. Upon meeting a fellow competitor who seemed lost and upset after the tournament had concluded, Emily kindly and quickly brought this other student's plight to the attention of tournament staff. Without Emily's attention and hospitality, staff may not have had the opportunity to remedy the issue. Her quick action on the issue helped keep a frightening situation for the student under control and is a paramount example of her thoughtfulness to each and every competitor regardless of whose team they are on.
Ganon Evans of Francis Howell High School has embodied these core values consistently at several events. Ganon's sportsmanship has garnered the attention of several tournament directors, staff, and his peers. His genuine love of the game is infectious, as is his exceptionally kind disposition. He conducts himself in the highest manner possible both in a match and outside, win or lose. His amiable manner and fair-mindedness have improved the experience of competitors at each tournament Ganon has been involved with. It’s often said that in a few years, one will not remember who won or lost an event but what will be remembered is how we felt about each other. Ganon Evans has demonstrated time and again, he will be remembered fondly by friend and foe alike.

The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance commends Emily and Ganon for their expression of MOQBA's core values and will recognize them by publicizing the award upon the MOQBA website and by presenting them with plaques and certificates as part of the 2018 NAQT Missouri State Qualifier ceremonies held on March 3, 2018.

So supported and signed by the membership of the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance as of March 3, 2018.
