Tossups will include powers (extra points for answering a tossup early).
We anticipate using two full round robins in the morning and afternoon with an advantaged final to decide the champion. We will be limiting teams to a maximum of 6 players per team, but feel free to sign up as many teams as you wish. We are currently setting the field cap at 24 but will try to increase that if we have enough teams interested and can acquire enough staff to support a larger tournament.

Washington Middle School
Middle School Tournament
NAQT MSNCT Qualifier
Questions: NAQT MS-33
This year we will be running four different divisions: - A Competitive Middle School division - A Standard Middle School division - A Non-MSHSAA Middle School division (Schools that are MSHSAA members cannot enter this division) - An Elementary division
The aim in splitting up the field is to help with scheduling (32 teams is a beast to run in 10 rounds) and to keep teams playing competitive matches throughout the day.
Middle School games will be 20/20 with 15s, but no -5s, and bonuses will not rebound. Elementary games will be 16/16 with 15s, but no -5s, and bonuses WILL rebound.
Correct tossup answers are ten points each, with an additional five-point “power” awarded for a correct answer given before a pre-determined point in the tossup. We are not assessing a five-point penalty for interrupting the moderator during the tossup with an incorrect answer.
Teams will play five morning rounds, break for lunch, then return for up to four afternoon games. This setup is subject to change, depending on the number of teams signed up. We plan to start the team meeting at 8:30 a.m., with the first round set for 8:50 a.m. and afternoon rounds slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. We anticipate the last game ending around 4 p.m.
The field will be capped at 24 teams. Play will begin at 9 a.m. and we hope to finish around 4 p.m. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. The exact format will be determined after the number of teams has been finalized. Expect to play at least 8 rounds and stay for the entire tournament regardless of performance.
